Mise-en-scene - Props - Adam Jones

Suitcase – the suitcase will be used throughout the house scene in order to indicate the fact that the performer is being “chucked” out of the house by his partner. This will relate to the lyrics of the song due to the fact that the lyrics are about which character is at fault for an incident that happened the night before.

Shoes – the shoes were also included in order to symbolise the fact that the character was being evicted from the house by his partner after a disagreement. This also relates to the lyrics of the song due to the fact that the lyrics describe conflict/disagreement within a relationship. We show the character being evicted by his partner by showing the woman throwing the shoes at him as he leaves the location (house).

Mise-en-scene - costume, hair and make-up - Adam Jones

The main character/performer within our music video will be represented as a wealthy male via his clothing. The reason for this is that his clothing will consist of a waistcoat, tie, collared shirt, and trousers. His class will also be represented through his hairstyle due to the fact that his hair will be tidy and short.

The female character within our video will also be represented as middle class through her costume, hair and make-up. The reason for this that she will be wearing a leather jacket, jeans, and black high heeled shoes. Her hair will contribute to the representation of a middle class person, the reason for this is that her hairstyle will look as though she has just had it styled by a professional hair stylist.

Mise-en-scene - Facial Expressions and Body Language - Adam Jones

Our music video of Justin Timberlake’s – Last Night will include allot of facial expressions and different types of body language. One example of a facial expression which will be included in our music video is enjoyment. The facial expression to represent enjoyment will be included throughout the performance part in order to symbolise the characters passion to perform. Another facial expression which will be included in our music video is sadness and loneliness. This facial expression will be enforced in order to relate to the narrative of the song. The reason for this that the song’s lyrics indicate a relationship break-up. Therefore the character involved in this relationship will be sad and have a sense of loneliness on his face.

The female in the video will also be required to show her mood via facial expressions and body language at certain parts of the video. An example of this will be included in the park location when the male and female performers walk towards each other. Throughout this clip in the video the female will use a “stuck-up” yet seductive walk in order to show her importance and dominance in terms of seduction towards the male.

Mise-en-scene - Editing - Adam Jones

One style of editing we will be using to create our music video will be fast editing. The reason for this is that the fast editing will help to relate the speed of the visual and the sound. We will use fast editing when the tempo of the beat in the song increases.

Another style of editing we will perform for our music video is slow editing, we will use slow editing throughout the narrative-based part of the video. The reason for this is that if the visuals are too fast for the audience to follow then it may result in them not being able to follow the narrative completely.

We will also use straight cuts as a form of editing, due to the fact that our music video will be switching between narrative and performance based parts of the video. The straight cuts are used to move from one location to another in order to show other activities that are going on in the video.

Mise-en-scene - Lighting - Adma Jones

Our video will consist of only natural lighting. The reason for this is that the lyrics of the song and the narrative of the video are based and related to real life situations. Therefore we have come to the conclusion that natural lighting will generate the best effect for the audience to relate the narrative and the lyrics to their own individual lives.

Mise-en-Scene - Camera - Adam Jones

One camera shot we will be using throughout our music video is long-shots. The reason for this is that a long-shot will show the performer as well as the fact that it establishes the location that the characters/performers are in.

Another camera shot that will be involved within our music video is close-ups. Close-ups are used to show who the artist is, the reason for this is that the audience can then build their own relationship with the artist. Close-ups also allow the audience to see the artist’s facial features clearly such as their eyes.

We will also use mid-shots throughout the duration of our music video. Mid-shots will also allow the audience to build their own personal relationship with the artist due to the fact that as well as being able to see the artist’s facial expressions they will also have visual access to the artist’s body language.

Throughout our music video we will also be including several low angle shots. The reason for this is that low angle shots show the singers dominance over the audience. The reason for this is that a low angle shot symbolises the camera looking up to the artist, which shows that the artist is dominant in terms of wealth/class and importance.

As well as using camera shot we will also be including camera movements within our music video for Justin Timberlake’s – last night. We will be using panning as a way of showing the activities of the characters/performers. Panning movement will be able to show the audience where the artist has come from and where they are going. This camera movement will mainly be used throughout the course of the park location. The reason for this is that this is the location which involves the most walking for the chearacters/performers.

Location Pictures - Adam Jones

Location - Adam Jones

- London Embankment: The reason why we have chose to use “Embankment” as a location for our music video is because of the fact that it shows various famous landmarks such as the London Eye and Houses of Parliament. The embankment is a relevant location for this part of the video due to the fact that it is a popular and busy area. It is also an effective location because it is part of the inner city London and is very popular amongst tourists but can also be seen as an unglamorous part of the city. This would therefore indicate that he is living in a major capital city.

House: the location of the house is appropriate in terms of our music due to the fact that the lyrics are based on love between the performers; therefore the location of the house represents the real-life scenario. Therefore the house location allows the audience to relate to the situation of the performers as it is in familiar surroundings.

Street/Park: Another location we will be using in our music video of Justin Timberlake’s “Last Night” is on a public street and public park. We chose to use this location for this music video due to the fact that the audience can also relate to this due to the fact that the setting will look familiar to where they live and also to what they see on a daily basis. The location is relative to the song/video due to the fact that the lyrics are very realistic and therefore the setting of a normal street and public park exaggerate the normality of the song’s lyrical narrative.
